淡黄色粉末或针状结晶，无毒，无味，遇光色渐变深，易氧化，能溶于热乙醇，微溶于水。
用途 
1. 用作饲料添加剂
2. 是一种新颖的多功能饲料添加剂，能显著促进家畜、家禽、鱼、虾、牛羊等动物的生长，改善生产与繁殖性能
3.作为氢源，应用于有机催化还原性胺化反应以及共轭还原反应中。
饲料添加剂：二氢吡啶是一种新型绿色多功能的饲料添加剂，具有广泛的生物学功能，在医学上用作心血管疾病的防治保健药物，有治疗脂肪肝、中毒性肝炎、抗衰老、防早熟等作用。进一步科学研究发现，二氢吡啶具有促进动物生长、改善皮毛质量、提高瘦肉率、提高繁殖性能及防病抗病等功能。二氢吡啶最初由前苏联科学家合成并应用，因其具有天然抗氧化剂VE的某些作用，最早在20世纪30年代，主要用作动植物油的抗氧化剂，70年代，前苏联拉脱维亚专家们(ValdmanAReChemicalbooktal.1997)发现其具有促进畜禽生长作用以来，世界各国相继展开了相关研究，并发现二氢吡啶有促进畜禽生长、改善畜禽产品品质、提高畜禽繁殖性能及防病等功能。我国对二氢吡啶的研究开始于20世纪80年代初，现已有多个厂家批量生产和投入使用，取得较好的试验效果。二氢吡啶能抑制脂类化合物的过氧化过程，从而阻止生物膜的氧化，对体内的组织细胞产生保护作用，具有天然抗氧化剂维生素E的某些功能。因而可提高牛、羊、猪、鸡、鹌鹑等畜禽的日增重，尤其能提高奶牛情期受胎率、种公牛精液质量及种肉鸡的受精率，且可抑制动物体内脂肪形成，提高胴体瘦肉比率。
