【性状】黄色或橙色结晶性粉末，无臭，遇光、遇热变为橙红色。在水中溶解，在乙醇中几乎不溶，在氯仿及乙醚中不溶。
【药理作用】三氮脒属于芳香双脒类，是传统使用的广谱抗血液原虫药，如对家畜梨形虫、锥虫和无形体均有治疗作用，但预防效果较差。
芳香双脒类的抗虫作用，同干扰虫体的需氧糖酵解和DNA合成有关。这类药物均会引起宿主低血糖。梨形虫和锥虫所进行的需氧糖酵解要依靠宿主的葡萄糖。据称这类药物的杀锥虫作用，取决于它对锥虫需氧糖酵解的抑制作用和核蛋白变性作用有关。例如，三氮脒还能选择性阻断锥虫动基体
(Kinetoplast)DNA的合成或复制，即三氮脒能迅速不可逆的与锥虫含DNA的细胞器结合，通常一分子三氮脒能与4～5个DNA核苷酸结合。由于三氮脒一 DNA络合物抑制动基体DNA合成，使锥虫不能繁殖而发挥抗虫效应。
