合成方法编辑
1.制备方法：由肉桂酸乙酯催化加氢制得。加氢反应在高压釜中进行，采用铬-铜-钡催化剂，温度为200℃，氢压约20MPa。加氢反应5-9h后，冷却滤去催化剂，滤液用乙醚提取。提取液回收乙醚后进行减压蒸馏，收集110-112℃（1.06kPa）馏分，即为成品，收率约85%。另一种制法是氯苄与环氧乙烷通过格氏反应得到3-苯基丙醇氯镁盐，再用硫酸水解得到3-苯基丙醇。此法收率约65-70%。
2.于高压反应釜中加入肉桂酸乙酯(2)57g(0.32mol)，5g铬-铜-钡催化剂，密闭反应釜。用氮气置换空气，再用氢气置换氮气。通入氢气至压力20MPa，直至氢气不再吸收，约需5～9h。反应结束后，分出剩余压力，打开反应釜，取出液体，滤去催化剂，乙醚洗涤。蒸出乙醚后减压分馏，收集110～112℃/1.06kPa的馏分，得3-苯基-1-苄醇(1)27g，收率85%。
3.于装有搅拌器、两个回流冷凝器的5L反应瓶中，加入925mL干燥的甲苯，金属钠168g(7.3mol),油浴加热至沸，金属钠熔化后开始搅拌。撤去热源，由一冷凝器的顶部滴加4-苯基-间二氧六环(2)328g(2.0mol)溶于正丁醇311g(4.2mol)的溶液，约30～60min加完。冷至室温，慢慢滴加由100mL浓硫酸溶于800mL水的溶液。分出有机层，有机层加水500mL和5%的硫酸使之呈中性。分出有机层，回收甲苯，减压蒸馏，收集113～115℃/0.4kPa的馏分，得3-苯基-1-丙醇(1)224～227g,收率82.2%～83.4%。 [3]

常用于药物及香料合成。医药工业中是中枢骨胳肌松弛剂强盘松的中间体。该品具有甜的花香香气和甜密饯香味，稀释后有清鲜愉快瓜果香。天然品存在于草莓、菌合香膏、安息香膏、茶叶、桂叶油等中，我国 GB2760-86规定为暂时允许使用的食用香料。GB 2760-1996规定为暂时允许使用的食用香料。主要用以配制桃、杏、李、西瓜、梅、草莓和胡桃、榛等坚果型香精。
