白色结晶，mp136~138℃。溶
于氯仿、醇、醚、苯等，微溶于水。在空气中稳定，遇光颜色变深，毒性小，防霉能力一般。主要用于聚氯乙烯等塑料、棉、毛、橡胶、黏合剂、纤维、皮革、涂料等防霉。可由水杨酸与苯胺在三氯化磷作用下反应制得，或由水杨酸甲酯与苯胺反应制得。在此基础上开发的3,4',5-三溴水杨酰苯胺，防霉能力大大提高。适用于塑料、橡胶、纤维，对聚氯乙烯薄膜的防霉特别有效。也是肥皂和化妆品的杀菌剂。
白色或略带红色的结晶。难溶于水，易溶于乙醇、乙醚中。
主要作用编辑
抗真菌作用较强，对小孢子菌和某些毛癣菌有效。常用其5%软膏治疗皮癣。与十一烯酸配合，可增强药效，减少刺激 [1] ，是肥皂和化妆品的杀菌剂。
制备过程编辑
将适量水杨酸苯酯投入50ml圆底烧瓶，由于加热至120℃，使熔融，不时摇动圆底烧瓶，并在此温度维持5min左右，然后按1g水杨酸苯酯加0.45ml苯胺的比例，加入苯胺，安装回流冷凝器，加热至160+5℃，反应2h，温度稍降后，趁热倾入30 ml85%乙醇中，置于冰水浴中搅拌，直至结晶析出，过滤，用85%乙醇洗两次，干燥，得粗品。
取粗品，投入附有回流冷凝器的圆底烧瓶中，加4倍量的（w/v）的95%乙醇，在60℃水浴中，使之溶解，加少量活性碳及EDTA脱色10min，趁热过滤，冷却、过滤。用少量乙醇洗两次（母液回收）。干燥得本品。
