多潘立酮是苯咪唑类化合-物，具有较强的促胃运动和止吐作用，可以加强食管下部括约肌张力，防止胃-食管反流，增强胃蠕动，促进胃排空，协调胃与十二指肠运动，抑制恶心、呕吐，并有效地防止胆汁反流，不影响胃液分泌。本品为外周多巴胺受体拮抗剂，直接阻断胃肠的多巴胺受体而呈现促胃运动作用。能增强食道的蠕动和食道下端括约肌的张力。由于它对血脑屏障的渗透力差，对脑内多巴胺受体几乎无拮抗作用，因此可排除精神和中枢神经的副作用。
