Gamma-Cyclodextrin (γ-CD) – Overview

γ-Cyclodextrin is a cyclic oligosaccharide composed of eight glucose units linked by α-1,4-glycosidic bonds, produced through the enzymatic action of cyclodextrin glucanotransferase (CGTase) on starch. Its cavity size (diameter ~9.5 Å) is larger than that of α-CD (6 glucose units) and β-CD (7 glucose units), enabling it to encapsulate larger guest molecules (500-1000 Da), such as cholesterol, vitamins, and hormones.

Water solubility: Approximately 23.2 g/100 mL at 25°C (significantly higher than β-CD).

Application features: Ideal for encapsulating macromolecules, improving solubility and stability, with lower hemolytic activity and superior safety.
